Road Race Championships 2025

A few highlights from this year’s championship:

  • A phenomenal performance from Eric Apperley (Builth & District RC), who was the first finisher in four out of the five races. He was narrowly pipped to a clean sweep, finishing second to Dan Bodman at the challenging Sorbrook Tough 10K.
  • We saw incredible engagement from clubs in the north of the region, particularly from Brecon AC and Builth & District.
  • It was also brilliant to see younger and smaller clubs making a bigger impact, with Crickhowell, Ystrad, and Hengoed all having a strong presence.

A huge congratulations to our 2025 overall champions, Griffithstown Harriers, who also topped the podium in the Female championship. Pont-y-Pwl and District Runners took the honours in the Male championship, while Lliswerry Runners put in a characteristically strong performance across all three competitions.

Our sincere thanks to Paul Adams for his hard work organising this championship series and the results.

10th March, Wollaton Park, Nottingham
This year’s event took place at a new venue which everyone seemed to prefer for the course, its lack of mud, fine weather and scenic setting with Wollaton Hall high up on the hill looking down at the unfolding race drama.
Macsen Watts produced East Wales’ best performance of the day, coming 6th in U13 Boys. Other notable junior performances came from Anya Brady, Ceri Griffiths, Will Chalk and Joseph Murphy.
Our best team performance was from U13 Boys, 32ndout of 40 scoring teams.
Elin Griffiths is stepping boldly into senior competition and was 70th in a high-quality Women’s race. Craig Hudson was our top Senior in the Men’s race in 227th position.

East Wales is one of the smallest counties to take part in the event, but we ensure we maintain our presence on the national championships stage, and team spirit was buoyant throughout the day.
